In southern Louisiana, the Orange Bird of Paradise can grow to a height of 4 to 6 feet with a spread of 3 to 4 feet, forming a lush, upright clump. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is suitable for USDA zones 9-11. Although somewhat cold-tolerant, it should be protected from frost. This plant prefers well-drained soil and regular watering, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.
