The Navel Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis) is a popular citrus variety known for its sweet, seedless oranges that are easy to peel and perfect for fresh eating. Navel oranges are prized for their juicy, flavorful segments and are typically harvested in late fall and winter.

In southern Louisiana, the Navel Orange Tree can grow to a height of 15 to 20 feet with a spread of 12 to 15 feet, making it suitable for home orchards and spacious gardens. It thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day for optimal growth and fruit production. Navel orange trees are moderately cold-tolerant, able to withstand temperatures as low as 26°F (-3°C). In southern Louisiana’s USDA zones 9-11, the tree can thrive year-round, but it may require protection during occasional cold snaps or frost.
