It thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal fruit production. Blood orange trees are moderately cold-tolerant and can withstand temperatures down to about 27°F (-3°C). In southern Louisiana’s USDA zones 9-11, they can be grown as perennials, though protection from frost or freezing temperatures may be needed during colder periods.
