Impatiens Beacon is a vibrant, shade-loving plant known for its bright, cheerful blooms that come in a range of colors including red, pink, white, and orange. This variety is highly resistant to downy mildew, an important characteristic that makes it an excellent choice for long-lasting displays in areas prone to this disease. Beacon impatiens are perfect for adding continuous color to shaded garden beds, borders, and containers throughout the season.
In southern Louisiana, Beacon impatiens typically grow to a height of 10 to 12 inches with a spread of 12 to 14 inches, creating a lush, mounding habit. They thrive in partial to full shade, making them ideal for shaded spots in the garden. Beacon impatiens prefer consistently moist soil, so regular watering is essential, especially during hot, dry periods. Be careful not to let the soil dry out completely, as impatiens are sensitive to drought. Although they can tolerate mild cold, they are not frost-tolerant and should be treated as annuals in southern Louisiana’s USDA zones 9-11.
